One bold message in the Book of Job is that you can say anything to God.\u00a0 Throw at him your grief, your anger, your doubt, your bitterness, your betrayal, your disappointment–he can absorb them all.\u00a0 As often as not, spiritual giants of the Bible are shown contending with God.\u00a0 They prefer to go away limping, like Jacob, rather than to shut God out.\u00a0 In this respect, the Bible prefigures a tenet of modern psychology:\u00a0 you can’t really deny your feelings or make them disappear, so you might as well express them.\u00a0 God can deal with every human response save one.\u00a0 He cannot abide the response I fall back on instinctively:\u00a0 an attempt to ignore him or treat him as though he does not exist.\u00a0 That response never once occurred to Job.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n You feel alone with the pain of what has happened.\u00a0 You just cannot get past the churning of the anger inside of you at the moment.\u00a0 People are busy.\u00a0 Nobody seems to dull the emotions anyway.\u00a0 Do you dare turn to God?\u00a0 Do you try to bury them beneath a wave of work and tasks?\u00a0 Maybe a choice would be to allow them to gush forward out of your soul as you would when Job found out about the loss of his children.\u00a0 No Job did not receive his children back when he went to God, and God did answer Job.\u00a0 But Job did not turn from God.\u00a0 Maybe the honesty of Job’s emotions drew him toward God and that made the difference during his trial.\u00a0 When others turned away from God in bitterness and resentment.\u00a0 Job stayed true to his relationship with God.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Job 42:10<\/p>\n And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends.\u00a0 And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Jennifer Van Allen<\/p>\n www.theprodigalpig.com<\/p>\n www.faithincounseling.org<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Me:\u00a0 Are you with Data?
