Me: \u00a0Are you hanging out in that tree?<\/p>\n

Prodigal: \u00a0Yep, and why don’t you share with me.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In evil long I took delight,<\/p>\n

Unawed by shame or fear,<\/p>\n

Till a new object struck my sight,<\/p>\n

And stopp’d my wild career:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I saw One hanging on a Tree<\/p>\n

In agonies and blood,<\/p>\n

Who fix’d His languid eyes on me.<\/p>\n

As near His Cross I stood.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sure never till my latest breath,<\/p>\n

Can I forget that look:<\/p>\n

It seem’d to charge me with His death,<\/p>\n

Though not a word He spoke:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My conscience felt and own’d the guilt,<\/p>\n

And plunged me in despair:<\/p>\n

I saw my sins His Blood had spilt,<\/p>\n

And help’d to nail Him there.<\/p>\n

Alas! \u00a0I knew not what I did!<\/p>\n

But now my tears are vain:<\/p>\n

Where shall my trembling soul be hid?<\/p>\n

For I the Lord have slain!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A second look He gave, which said,<\/p>\n

“I freely all forgive;<\/p>\n

This blood is for thy ransom paid;<\/p>\n

I die that thou may’st live.”<\/p>\n

Thus, while His death my sin displays<\/p>\n

In all its blackest hue,<\/p>\n

Such is the mystery of grace,<\/p>\n

It seals my pardon too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With pleasing grief, and mournful joy,<\/p>\n

My spirit now is fill’d,<\/p>\n

That I should such a life destroy,<\/p>\n

Yet live by Him I kill’d!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
