Prodigal:\u00a0 Why is the cross so important?<\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 It was an act of love.<\/p>\n

Prodigal:\u00a0 That sounds amazing to me.<\/p>\n

This is from the book\u00a0 The Cross of Christ by John R. W. Stott<\/p>\n

“God dying for man,” wrote P.T. Forsyth.\u00a0 “I am not afraid of that phrase;\u00a0 I cannot do without it.\u00a0 God dying for men; and for such men – hostile, malignantly hostile men.” Again, because ‘ the holiness of God…. is meaningless without judgement’, the one thing God could not do in the face of human rebellion was nothing.\u00a0 ‘He must either inflict punishment or assume it.\u00a0 And he chose the latter of course,as honouring the law while saving the guilty.\u00a0 He took his own judgement.’<\/strong><\/p>\n

We think God is all love or we think God is all about punishment.\u00a0 Neither one is true.\u00a0 We walk in fear or we have no fear at all.\u00a0 God is both and that is the perfect balance.\u00a0 He guides us with grace and also grows us with discipline at times.\u00a0 It all started though when He agreed to be on the cross instead of making us go.<\/p>\n

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.<\/p>\n
