Prodigal:\u00a0 I want to help my friend, but I sure hope I will get a nice thank you for it.<\/p>\n

Me:\u00a0 Well, I think helping your friend should be about your heart motive.<\/p>\n

Prodigal:\u00a0 That is something to think about it.<\/p>\n

This is from the book Rise and Shine:\u00a0 A Wake-up Call by Charles Swindoll<\/p>\n

It is helpful to remember that the flesh (your carnal nature)\u00a0 is very creative and selfish.\u00a0 Think of it as a huge sponge, ready and willing to soak up all the glory.\u00a0 It is a great pretender, acting like it is humble, yet all the while loving the strokes.\u00a0 It anticipates them.\u00a0 It is ambitious.\u00a0 It is energetic.\u00a0 It looks for opportunities to grab the glory that belongs to God alone.\u00a0 The flesh is not choosy.\u00a0 It doesn’t mind getting the glory for spiritual-sounding things or religious acts.\u00a0 Who knows how many sermons have been preached in the flesh?\u00a0 I’ve certainly done a few, I must confess. Futhermore, by hiding my motives, I can, with public skill, manipulate a congregation to do a number of things I want done.\u00a0 And I can gloss it over so effectively they will think they are doing it God’s way, for God’s purpose, when in actuality they are doing my will, and I get the glory.\u00a0 I can actually take the glory God alone deserves.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don’t do it.\u00a0 Don’t live in the flesh.\u00a0 I know you have thought it over in your mind several different ways to make it seem it is spiritual, but lets be honest.\u00a0 You want the glory.\u00a0 You think your way is the way it should be. Well God has interesting ways, and they don’t always follow your plans.\u00a0 Focus on a message with the Holy Spirit guiding you, and do not take any of the credit.\u00a0 Focus on God instead.<\/p>\n

Psalm 11:1-2<\/p>\n

In the LORD I take refuge;<\/p>\n

How can you say to my soul,<\/p>\n

“Flee as a bird to your mountain;<\/p>\n

For, behold, the wicked bend the bow,<\/p>\n

They make ready their arrow upon the string,<\/p>\n

To shoot in darkness at the upright heart.<\/p>\n
