Prodigal:  I was wondering where you were?<\/p>\n

Me:  I was held up, but I was trying to get here.<\/p>\n

Prodigal:  It is ok, God was with me.<\/p>\n

In 1960, the well-known Dr. Norman Vincent Peale preached a sermon that included a story about an Episcopal minister in a Southern town who stood up to Sam, a political boss, and was able to defeat a plan of his.  “I’m going to kill that minister,”  Sam told several of his friends after the meeting.<\/p>\n

Friends alerted the minister and offered to walk home with him, past a dark woods.  But the minister waved away their concerns.  “The Lord will be with me,” he told them, and he walked home alone in safety.<\/p>\n

Years passed, and on his deathbed, Sam sent for this minister.  “Reverend, I meant to kill you that night,” he said.  “I was in the woods with a club.”<\/p>\n

“Why didn’t you?”  the minister asked.<\/p>\n

“What do you mean–why didn’t I?”  Sam asked.  “Who were those two big men with you?”<\/p>\n

“There were no big men with me,”  the minister protested.<\/p>\n

“Yes, there were,”  Sam said.  “I saw them.”<\/p>\n

But with God indeed dwell on the earth?  Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee;  how much less this house that I have builded?<\/p>\n
