God, give us men! A time like this demands<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men whom the lust of office does not kill;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men who possess opinions and a will;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men who have honor; men who will not lie;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men who can stand before a demagogue<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In public duty and in private thinking;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their large professions and their little deeds,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom weeps,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrong rules the land and waiting Justice sleeps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
