Effectual Faith

Prodigal: I’m in for a penny, might as well be in for a pound.

Me: Amen!

This is from Walking in the Spirit by A. B. Simpson

Not always is it the preacher who exercises the effectual faith; sometimes it is a silent and obscure heart whom no one shall know until the day when all things shall be revealed.

Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. Hebrews 9:1 (KJV)

Out of Obedience

Prodigal: What can we focus on today.

Me: I have something

This is from H. E. Manning

Out of obedience and devotion arises an habitual faith, which makes Him, though unseen, a part of all our life. He will guide us in a sure path, though it be a rough one: though shadows hang upon it, yet He will be with us. He will bring us home at last. Through much trial it may be, and weariness, in much fear and fainting of heart, in much sadness and loneliness, in griefs that the world never knows, and under burdens that the nearest never suspect. Yet He will suffice for all. By His eye or by His voice He will guide us, if we be docile and gentle; by His staff and by His rod, if we wander or are wilful: any how, and by all means, He will bring up to His rest.

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. Mark 6:3 (KJV)

The Battle

Prodigal: With Christ is better.

Me: With Christ is better than anything else without Christ.

This is from Intimacy with the Beloved by Pat Chen

Those who give themselves completely to Christ are often despised, mocked and looked upon as weird. The crowd demands that we prove who He is in us. They told Jesus to prove who He was. The world demands that we be just like everybody else. If we are not, they think something is wrong with us. We are constantly challenged to be like the crowd and to prove ourselves. But we don’t have to prove anything. Jesus has already proved who He is on the cross. We must battle against those same mocking spirits that Jesus battled on the cross. The evil spirits are intruders into our private lives with Christ. Our passion for Jesus is despised by the enemy. He hates our passion, and he hates us.

Present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. Romans 12:1
