Me: Prodigal are you watching the lightning play tonight?
Prodigal: Yep, we need to win this to tie up the series. It will be a tough fight without Bishop.
Me: Yeah, I know about the injury during the first game that he had. Before the game starts though how about I share with you about handicaps?
Prodigal: That would be great!
Jennifer Rothschild in her book Lessons I Learned in the Dark Steps to Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
The greatest handicap you can have is for it not to be well with your soul. To allow your circumstances to blind you to the infinite goodness of God is far more debilitating than physical darkness. To silence the voice of God who longs to tell you of His love and forgiveness is far worse than physical deafness. To be paralyzed by fear is far more confining than physical immobility.
I am laughing right now. You want to know why? Because I remember when I thought the christian life was going to be boring if I followed God and was obedient to Him. See God always calls us at some point in our walk to Walk by Faith and Not By Sight! This will always battle with our need to control and plan!
As you walk your faith out, others will see this in you, that you choose to walk by faith and not by sight. You will start getting two reactions. There are ones that are encourage themselves when they see your walk. The second one might happen though. These group of people try to stop your walk of faith. So then life quickly becomes interesting with all these groups that seem to take a different stance. So where do you go when the groups fight? You look to the beginner of your faith! You look to the Lord. Don’t look at the crowds of people. Don’t look to the circumstances. Look down at your bible, and remember God’s love for you and his forgiveness.
Matthew 13:14-15
You will be ever hearing but never understanding: you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them
