Love is Not A Deed

Me:  Where are we going Prodigal?

Prodigal:  We have to go yonder all the way to Plum Nelly.

Me: Well I am following.  Just lead.

This is from John Piper.

Love is not a deed.  Love is a reflex of the newly born heart responding to the beauty of God in Christ.  A deed of love can be imitated, but a reflex of the heart cannot be.  Love arises from the cell of the heart to the beauty of God in Christ.  To truly love God we must delight in a relationship with God that satisfies.  Loving God is delighting in, cherishing, savoring, treasuring, revering, and admiring God beyond any gift–life and health notwithstanding.  So great is the gift of His salvation of our souls that Scripture declares even angels desire to  look into it. (1 Peter 1:12).

To love God we must have a relationship with God.  To develop a relationship with God we must talk to Him, not just talk about Him.

In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence.

Ephesians 1:7
