Treasure

Me:  Howdy Prodigal!  Who are your friends?

Prodigal:  They are sailors sailing the open seas looking for treasure.  They stopped by and they want me to join them.  Do you think I would make a good sailor?

Me:  Prodigal the Sailor, that could work!  Before you go looking for your treasure on the open seas, it is possible you could find treasure here.

Prodigal:  Please tell me where!

Ravi Zacharias talks about a treasure we should be seeking in his book Jesus Among Other gods.

It is possible to hold a treasure in your hand but be ignorant of it and go for the wrapping instead.  This proximity to truth and distance from its worth is repeated innumerable times in our lives.  In Chesterton’s words, we hold the dust and let the gold go free.

No one saw this tragedy lived out more than Jesus did.  The masses came to Him frequently and left embracing lesser things while forfeiting the real treasure He was offering them.  He often expressed surprise at their shallowness in being unable to look beyond the surface.

Look beyond the surface takes seeing with the eyes of Jesus.  I am guilty of it.  Quickly making a judgment from just a couple of points I see on the surface.  Not taking the time to look forward.  Not taking the time to see the treasure.

I know this, Jesus has given you a treasure within your grasp.  There is also wrapping available.  The wrapping is catchy to the eye but seek the treasure instead.  Treasure is lasting.  Treasure is what Jesus gave you.  All other fancy wrappings will get old and end up in the garbage.  Trust God and take the treasure instead.

Galatians 1:6

I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel
